A career now spanning 3 years( 2004 – 2007), Jay has acquired many accolades over his time as the world’s first ever Asian R'n'B artist. He recorded his first single ‘Dance with you’ with leading Brit Asian producer Rishi Rich alongside Punjabi singer Juggy D.
My sister hooked me on to crossover pop artistes like Jay Sean and Raghav, and I liked their music so much, that ever since I’ve been following Jay Sean’s releases closely. I made one of my friends listen to “Ride it” and his reaction after hearing just the first two lines was that this number was perhaps similar to Akon’s “Smack That”. That set me thinking if it was really the case, wouldn’t Akon make a fortune if he sued the lyricist of “Ride It” (which by the way, is the man Jay Sean himself!) for copyright infringement?? Nonetheless, the number is one of my personal favourites, and if one has a look at the original lyrics (Yes I mean it - the original lyrics that were meant to be incorporated into the song) they’re hilariously funny! And I personally LOVE the tune, which by the way is nowhere near to its so-called Akon counterpart.
However, the cherry on the cake is the lyrics of the song – they help underline the theme of the number, which spells contemporary right to the tee. The set up is that of a super-exclusive
Kudos to Jay Sean!!!
